Most people would disagree with this. Most states today follow a practice of a separation of church and state.

There is a pretty good reason for this; most countries are not uniformly made up of people from one religion so having religious leaders with influence over the state could lead to persecution of minority religions, and since the state already does this with a separation would we really want to exacerbate the problem? The principle came out of a Europe where there had been a couple of centuries of war and strife caused in part by the split between catholicism and protestantism, it is safe to assume that most people would not want such strife today.

Another reason for secularism is the possible impact giving more say to one religion would have on democracy; most religions do not arrive at who their leaders are in a democratic fashion (please name any that do!) A few might have an internal vote, some very enlightened ones might allow the whole membership of their church to vote for their leader, it is most unlikely that any allow the whole population to vote. If these leaders then have political influence are not the members of that church having more say over the running of the state than those who are not a member of that church?

Finally are you sure you mean secularism, I dont see how an individual 'practices' it, you might mean athieism?

I disagree.

For three main points.

1.) It corrupts the peoples' minds. Because religion is clearly in contradictory to Philosophy (Logic), and logic should be the foundation of a nation. We should not believe in some spirit that will save us, but rather we should act on the things we want to achieve.

2.) It promotes confusion and divide. Too many religions, too many contradictions, and too many killings just because of religion.

3.) Not everyone believes that some spirit exists.
