Question of the Week Answers

Is David Cameron right to be setting deadlines for Eurozone leaders?

No. The UK has no real leverage with Europe at this point, even though Cameron is pursuing the same failed policies in the UK that Merkel is pursuing in the rest of Europe. The EUrozone leaders will simply ignore Cameron's deadline and the UK will find itself further isolated.

Will Greece manage to form a government?

Eventually, yes, but it may take new elections for that to happen. The real question is with Greece will stay a Euro-zone country and/or a member of the European Union.

Will the elections in Greece and France force Europe to abandon austerity?

They're more likely to get either Greece to abandon the Euro or Europe to kick Greece out of the Euro-zone.

Is Rupert Murdoch a fit person to run an international media conglomerate?

No. He has abused his power repeatedly and undermined objective journalism wherever he has owned a media property. He has put personal interest, politics and profits ahead of the public good.

Should the West militarily intervene in Syria?

No, there is no such thing as "the West." Perhaps you could argue for UN or NATO intervention, but not for "the West" to intervene even if NATO may be considered the equivalent of "the West." All evidence suggests, though, that an Libyan style NATO intervention wouldn't work in Syria.
